甘え — Amae. There is no English word for it. It's a Japanese concept — the particular softness of trusting someone enough to need them. Not weakness. Not dependency. Something closer to: knowing you are safe enough to let your hands open. Look at her hand. Palm up. Nothing held back. That is amae. New work, just finished. Part of my Verbinding series — about the ways women hold each other across cultures and centuries.
