This canvas is one of a series of three canvases. “Here I am” Black swan of the lake, is the first. The full conviction of the prima ballerina The realization of my vision. Ballet and Swan Lake are one. During my stay in Vinkeveen we were often surprised with a visit from some black swans that lived there. Black swans were not a common sight seen every day in the Netherlands. So these stately animals are always a delight to see. They always remind me of the prima ballerina. I then think of the hours of training they have to endure to be able to dance as beautifully as they do. For me, the black swan and the prima ballerina are the symbol of perseverance and of showing that you are there. Tough and brave, sure of yourself and your environment.
