The beheading of Holofernes by Judith (narrated in the Book of Judith), has been the subject of many paintings. In this painting I tried to depict Judith, not as violent but more as almost disconcerted. A couragous person that stood up to tyranny but at the same time is aware of what it has forced her to do. The background with its contrasting colours, swirls and splashes of paint is used to represent the intensity and gruesomeness of the act
